DIY Hand Lettered Christmas Ornaments
Christmas, my favourite time of the year, is just around the corner, and one of my favourite things to do is make personalized ornaments! It has been a tradition to make these for my clients at my home over the years, but they are also wonderful gifts for neighbours, teachers, and friends.
Given the situation with the current pandemic, I wanted to share this post to encourage you to make these gifts at your very own home.
You will need
Clear round ornaments (glass or plastic)
Craft feathers / Glitter / Fun Felt Balls
Paint markers
Step one: fill your ornaments
The sky’s the limit when it comes to filling in your ornaments. You may use anything that peaks your interest - I usually like to keep it simple and fill my ornaments with either glitter or craft feathers. This year I will be filling my ornaments with coloured felt balls.
Step two: use faux calligraphy to ink your ornament
Faux Calligraphy is a technique of creating a brush lettered look with a “regular” marker. You write the word first, followed by thickening the downstrokes. It may take a few tries to get the hang of it, but anyone can do it, I promise.
My go-to is Sharpie Oil Paint Marker with the fine tip. The oil-base allows it to be water resistant and it is significantly more durable than the water-based pen. With that said, don’t fret if you make a spelling error, it comes off easily with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover.
step three: add decorative ribbion
To wrap it up, the final touch is the ribbon on the cap. This adds a complete look to your DIY ornament and just really ties up the end product.
That’s it! Three easy steps and you have a custom ornament that can is customized any way you want. I hope this post helps/inspires you to make your own Christmas ornaments at the comfort of your own homes.
As for myself, I will start taking orders for customized ornaments as of the first day of December for curbside pick-up. If you need help making beautiful ornaments, feel free to fill in the form below or send me a quick email, I would be honour to help out. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and stay safe out there.
Xoxo.
